# About Why Mugs — A love letter to coffee mugs

## Why a whole site
about mugs?

Because the mug changes the coffee. A thin paper cup makes the same espresso taste tinny and rushed. A heavy ceramic from a roadside diner makes drip coffee taste like a memory.

Walk into any coffee shop and look at the shelf — the wide-mouthed cappuccino cups, the demitasses, the gigantic cafe-au-lait bowls. Each one is a quiet decision about how the drink should feel in your hand.

Open any kitchen cupboard and look at the mugs. Concert mugs. Wedding favor mugs. The one your grandma gave you. The one with the chip you refuse to throw away. They're tiny museums.

This site is a love letter to all of them.

FAQ

## About this project
## Who runs Why Mugs?
+
A small editorial project by mug obsessives. We don't sell mugs — we just write about them.
## Do you sell any of these mugs?
+
No. Why Mugs is independent and ad-free. We point you at archetypes; you find the cup wherever you shop.
## Can I suggest a mug type?
+
Yes — if there's an archetype we're missing, send us a note and we'll consider adding it to the Field Guide.
## Is the content original?
+
Yes. Every entry, history note, and material breakdown is written for this site, fact-checked against standard references like the OED for etymology.
